The program will facilitate student housing in carefully chosen family homes, thus allowing for full immersion in Argentinean life. All homes will be visited and inspected before being assigned, making sure that each family has a sincere interest in hosting American students. SPBA will be sensitive to SC students’ dietary restrictions and other special needs. Swarthmore in Buenos Aires offers three lodging alternatives.

One option is to stay with an Argentine family. The second is to share an apartment with other/s Swarthmore student/s that have applied for the program during the same semester (this option is only available if two or more students prefer the shared apartment alternative). The third alternative is to share an apartment with other people (students, but not from Swarthmore and of different ages and interests).

Bear in mind that if you choose to stay with an Argentine family, you will have to meet their cultural standards, while plunging into Argentine everyday life and street language. This alternative is particularly useful for those whose Spanish is not very advanced.

As for the third living option –sharing an apartment with locals- keep in mind that this could be a very attractive alternative but one that that is the most difficult to arrange given the way in which the rent housing market works in Buenos Aires.
